About DTF Prints: How It All Started
At the heart of DTF-Prints.com is Eric, a pioneer in the DTF printing industry whose journey began in early 2021 with a single Direct to Garment (DTG) machine in the back of a modest t-shirt shop in Deland, Florida.
Recognizing the limitations of existing DTG technology, Eric embarked on a bold venture to convert older printers for DTF printing. Through relentless experimentation and leveraging software designed for DTG, he meticulously mastered ink settings to achieve the perfect DTF transfer. This groundbreaking work set the stage for unparalleled print quality and established DTF-Prints.com as a leader in the industry.
Growing Pains & Going Independent
The initial success on Etsy was nothing short of phenomenal. Eric’s shop quickly went viral, attracting orders far beyond what one person could handle. This prompted the hiring of a dedicated team, and together they printed around the clock — often working 18-hour days to meet the soaring demand.
But success on Etsy came with its challenges. Issues with payouts, arbitrary cancellations, and refunds on already-shipped orders took a toll. Losing nearly 60% of income to a platform that seemed increasingly adversarial, Eric made the difficult decision to sever ties with Etsy — despite generating over $20,000 a month. The principle mattered more, and it led to a pivotal shift in our business model.
DTF-Prints.com Today
Today, Eric and a wonderful team run DTF-Prints.com out of a dedicated facility in Tampa, Florida — producing and shipping several hundred orders every single day. We’ve grown a lot since those early days, but at our core we’re still a small, tight-knit team that cares about every print that goes out the door.
That matters because it shapes how we price. We intentionally keep our margins slim so we can pass the savings directly to our customers. We’d rather help a hundred small businesses stay competitive than pad our own bottom line.
